Outdoor is Life’s biggest Classroom

I have never considered myself as an outdoorswoman. I’m a stay-at-home person, you’ll usually find me all cooped up in my room with a good book in hand, or cooking up a storm in the kitchen.  Well, that’s when I’m not traveling abroad or discovering new places to see or food to enjoy.

Yes, I’ve had my shares of hiking, wild life safari, climbing, and camping. For someone professing to be a homebody, I must confess that I enjoyed doing these outdoor activities.  Even if it means I had to temporarily leave the comforts of home. However, two weeks of camping with mosquito infestation and away from civilization would totally drive me nuts!

During our recent MTY class, a guest speaker, Mr. Rowell Chan of Recreational Outdoor Exchange (R.O.X.) shared about how the Philippines is deemed as one of the world’s richest and active outdoor destination.

“Outdoor is life’s biggest classroom.”

The above statement really made me think.  If the outdoors is one gigantic classroom, then I must be missing out on a lot of lessons.  Now if I’m missing out on a lot as a youth leader, then definitely my group is also missing out big time! Uh-oh.  I just realized that the only time we had an outdoor activity as a group was during our retreat at La Mesa Ecopark last year.  No wonder all of us are starting to look pale and sickly. Hehe.

Good thing one of the topics discussed during our recent class was about the different Outdoor Activities that can be incorporated in our youth ministry.  I can’t wait for our next class, where I’ll get to learn how to plan and incorporate the great outdoors into my area of ministry.  Ooooh, i bet the kids will have tons of fun this summer! ^_^

You folks gotta try spelunking or even cave camping. You are never the same after doing it. Visit this website and say hello to JONI:
