During the National Youth Conference hosted by PCEC entitled “Youth Factor 2″, five of the most influential speakers of our time shared different ways how young people could ignite and show their Passion for Excellence, the Nation, Family, Purity, and Passion for the Glory of God.

Their messages can be summed up with a simple acrostic:
Y – Yield to the design of God
God has placed in us the desire and will to do greater things for His glory. Doing everything with the sole purpose of making people see God in us, not just by word but more importantly through actions.
“For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” Philippians 2:13
A person doesn’t have to be a celebrity in order to have an impact on others, s/he just have to do what God has called him/her to do and be driven with God’s passion in order to touch people for eternity.
Be sensitive enough to know what God wants you to do, what He requires of you in a certain situation. This can only be accomplished by the amount of time we spend with Jesus. By spending time with Him, showing our willingness to know and follow Him. Then He will show Himself to us little by little, and help us to know and accomplish His perfect will in our lives.
O – Opt to prioritize your family.
As young people, let us not reverse our role in the family. Simply because a person is gifted or intelligent doesn’t mean s/he should act like a parent. Regardless of our gifts and talents, we have to obey and honor our parents.
Ephesians 6:1-3 says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with a promise that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
Yes, there are many dysfunctional families because parents did not train for parenthood. But try to view and understand that there is no such thing as a school for parents and no course in parenthood. Nobody can and should run away from his/her family.
If there are problems in the family, let us strive to be the vessel that will help correct the defect in our family. Be an example, live a life that will help gain the respect of the older generation. (1 Timothy 4:12)
U – Understand the issue.
Do not be insecured with what God has given you. The standard that this world wants us to embrace is vanity. We are not called to live the standard that the world dictates.
In 1 Peter 3:3-4, the Scripture teaches us how we should see ourselves: “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
Our standard should be Jesus Christ. Compassion, wisdom, patience – these are the things that we should strive for and develop, instead of the things that we see around us.

T – Take the challenge.
Find what you are passionate about and boldly ask God how you can make Him your driving force behind that passion. If passion is the vehicle, let the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) be the fuel.
When you start something with God, it never stops until it is completed. Philippians 1:6 says, “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Allow God to take over and He will provide everything that is required to accomplish His will.
When you have passion for the glory of God, it leaves you open and transparent, ready and willing to take on the next task, the next challenge.
H – Healing in order to find meaning.
There has never been a generation as physicially fit, mentally alert, spiritually active, technologically advanced, and yet as emotionally scarred as this generation.
But no matter how scarred, talented, equipped this generation is, God is looking for people who are willing and open to be passionate for Him. There is a passion that needs to be opened up in each and everyone. It is there it just needs to be ignited.

When you think about your past, what events and places do you remember? What memories do you allow to play over in your mind? I’m sure some of you can come up with a massive list of memories that you’d want to play over and over, like Friends’ re-runs on a local channel.
Given the same question, i would personally handpick one specific place that i’d like to live in my mind forever.
SM City North Edsa.
As i sit here, i realized how memorable this place has been to me. It brings back a lot of happy moments, not to forget the painful ones. SM City North Edsa is where i usually go whenever i feel something, when i need to take a stroll and ruminate.
It’s a place that helps me sort out my confusions when troubles come my way and problems never seem to end. It somewhat comforts me in a way that only this place know. I find contentment just by seating there, watching people move on to different directions.

I’m a city girl, i was born and raised in Quezon City. Attended church, a private school, college, and got my first job for an American company right in the heart of the city. Every detail about my childhood and teenage years up to this point revolves around the city, and my solace, SM City North.
During elementary years, i had my first taste of the real world. It was the period when we had to go through a great difficulty as a family. It was also the time when my classmates in school started to treat me differently, an outcast. Oblivious to them, we were going through a lot of pain and hardships as a family. But as they say, every cloud has a silver lining, and it was during these years that my elder brother and i started to bond.
He would take me to SM North Edsa every Saturday so i can buy books and we’d go for hotdogs and just hang out afterwards. My passion for the written word and my positive outlook on life were weaned through the help of my elder sibling, under the roof of SM City North Edsa.
It sort of reminds me of the time when Mr. Henry Sy started SM City North Edsa back in 1985, it was a year or so after a great political and econonomic turmoil in our country. Mr. Sy did not choose the path of least resistance, he didn’t opt for mediocrity as an answer to the future. Instead, he decided to burst free from the cultural gravitational pull that tells each of us to settle and set our sights low for life. SM City North Edsa was built because people like Mr. Sy decided to pursue life with excellence and the desire to leave a legacy.
Interestingly enough, on Friday, May 29, 2009 SM City North Edsa will formally open its door to the new and innovative part of the mall, the Sky Garden.

I would like to personally invite you to visit my place of solace that will definitely leave a mark on history.
As of May 21, 2009, the Philippines has reported one confirmed patient afflicted with the Influenza A(H1N1) – a 10-year-old Filipina who arrived in the country after travelling to the United States and Canada.
At present, the patient is relieved of fever and flu but still has sore throat. She is now under intensive care and strict quarantine by the Department of Health. Household members who have been in contact of the said patient have received preventive medications and are undergoing strict quarantine and observation for flu-like symptoms.
The government continues to monitor incoming travellers in all airports, and entry points including chartered plane terminals and sea ports. Apart from strict surveillance, the government has likewise required travellers to monitor themselves within 10 days after arrival from for any flu-like symptoms.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) maintains that there is no reported cancellation on any of its tourism bookings. DOT’s marketing departments and regional units remain on heightened alert for any case of flu-like symptoms from arriving tourists.
The DOT has likewise urged tourism stakeholders and partners (transportation services, hotels, resorts and restaurants) to be vigilant and impose stricter measures on proper hygiene and etiquette to prevent the virus from spreading.
The tourism industry remains unhampered and has issued no travel restrictions.

Human Trafficking
Human Trafficking is defined by the United Nations as “the recruitment, transportation, and receipt of a person for sexual or economical exploitation by force, fraud, coercion, or deception” in order to make a profit. The UN estimates that at any one time there are 2.5 million trafficked victims in the world, with the majority of these victims in Asia and the Pacific. It is the second-largest illegal trade after drugs, with criminal traffickers earning over US$10 billion every year through the buying and selling of human beings. Often, victims are young men and women – the MTV demographic – who are guilty only of wanting a better life.
